Bulwarks (Mellifluous)

At a time,
He would play reluctant servant to the desires of a shrewd vixen
Despising all of her tricks,
Grieving daily for his freedom

Beleaguered by her fluttering presence
For her, he was without patience or sentiment
She would be the victim of his murderous stares
Scoffing at her numerous attempts to amuse him

Then one day, to his own bewilderment,
He would begin to appreciate her and all her comelines
What were once sharp tones to his sensitive ears
Became suddenly mellifluous

She was to be the causation of a ripple in his soul
Opening a doorway to his senses
Growing into love unsuspecting
Without realising
She had skilfully and quietly crept,
Inside the bulwark of his defences
